At the end of the first World War in 1919, the Hutchinson/Reno
County Chamber of Commerce was formed by a group of community
leaders that called themselves, at various times, the Hutchinson
Commercial Club, the Hutchinson Business Association, or the
Hutchinson Merchants Association.
The decision to change their
name to the Hutchinson Chamber of Commerce was one method
used to modernize and bring together the efforts of community
leaders of the era. At that time, business opportunities and
the availability of workers seemed very promising, therefore
creating possibilities for business expansion. Obviously,
those business leaders of the day were on the cutting edge
of what was to come.
Today, under the name Hutchinson/Reno County Chamber of Commerce,
the Chamber is involved in economic development, specifically
job creation and retention, on a much broader scope than ever
before.
