Groundbreaking Ceremony for Siemens Wind Power Facility to be Held on the Kansas State Fairgrounds

Sep 11, 2009

The Hutchinson/Reno County Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce a ground-breaking ceremony for the Siemens Wind Power nacelle factory. The ceremony will take place at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, September 17, 2009 at Lake Talbot stage on the Kansas State Fairgrounds.

Governor Mark Parkinson, a strong supporter of wind energy development, will offer remarks, as well as Denise Bode, CEO of the American Wind Energy Association. Siemens executives from Germany, Denmark, and the U.S. will also speak of their vision for the new plant. Remarks will be followed by the presentation of a commemorative destination stone marker from the Hutchinson/Reno County community and a performance by the Hutchinson High School drum line.

The Siemens Wind Power nacelle assembly facility will create an estimated 400 jobs and is the first major wind turbine equipment factory in Kansas. Construction of the 300,000 square-foot plant, to be built in the Salt City Business Park, will begin in October.

Hiring for the facility is expected to begin in the spring of 2010. Representatives from Siemens will have a booth in the Meadowlark Building on the fairgrounds to offer details about job opportunities with the company. Visitors to the booth can learn about the skills necessary for positions with the facility and how to apply in the future.

Photo opportunities and media interviews will be available immediately following the ceremony. For more information concerning this event, contact the Chamber office at (620)662-3391.
