Chamber’s Spirit of Success Economic Development Campaign Celebrates Accomplishment of Goals
Mar 24, 2010
HUTCHINSON, Kansas (March 24, 2010) With
the aggressive goal of creating or retaining 2,000 jobs in Reno County, the
Hutchinson/Reno County Chamber of Commerce launched the Spirit of Success program in 2002. The Chamber announced today the
achievement of the economic development campaign’s goals for capital
investment, annual earnings and job creation.
Spirit
of Success was a comprehensive economic development plan initiated by the
Chamber with the
guidance of area business leaders and investors. The initiative was funded by
the private sector and provided for a staff dedicated solely to the purpose of
business recruitment and existing business retention/expansion. The
multi-pronged plan also included an emphasis on workforce training and
marketing the community.
The projected economic impact of Spirit of Success was the creation/retention of 2,000 jobs, $50
million of annual earnings and $120 million of capital investment for Reno County.
Over the past seven years, The Chamber, in cooperation with local governments,
has worked aggressively to achieve these benchmarks. Outcomes of the campaign
include the realization of 103% of job creation/retention goals, 173% of
capital investment and over 101% of annual payroll.
Some funds still remain from the Spirit of Success program. These will be used to finance The
Chamber’s economic development efforts for approximately another year and a
half.
