May 8, 2008

The Greater Hutchinson Convention/Visitors Bureau (CVB) announces plans to tour the 8 Wonders of Reno County while celebrating National Tourism Week May 10-17.

Hutchinson, KS – May 8, 2008 – The CVB is conducting a Grand FAM Tour, May 16th, to showcase the winners of the 8 Wonders of Reno County, while celebrating National Tourism Week, May 10-17th.  National Tourism Week is celebrated nationally and is a collective effort to promote the power of travel through customized events in communities nationwide.  The goal is to enhance the country's economy, security and perception, and recognize the cultural and social benefits created by travel and tourism.

The Grand FAM Tour is open to any interested Reno County resident, and is geared toward educating the local citizens of Hutchinson and Reno County about what there is to see and do in their own backyard.  “Building community pride is an important marketing tool for both the CVB, as the local citizenry are often times the best ambassadors,” said LeAnn Cox, Director of the Greater Hutchinson CVB.

The Grand FAM Tour will start and end at the Kansas State Fairgrounds; participants should enter the 20th & Poplar entrance and park on the west side of the Grandstand.  Participants will board a bus, provided by Durham School Services, and depart at 8:30 a.m. beginning with a tour of the Kansas State Fairgrounds. The tour will continue to make stops at the Kansas Cosmosphere and Space Center, Historic FOX Theatre, and the Quivira National Wildlife Refuge before stopping for a complimentary lunch in downtown Hutchinson. The lunch will be provided by the Downtown Hutchinson Revitalization Partnership. After lunch, the Grand FAM Tour will visit the “Longest Grand Elevator,” Dillon Nature Center, Kansas Underground Salt Museum and Yoder, KS. The tour should conclude by 4:30 p.m. The entire schedule of the day’s activities can be seen on the CVB’s website at www.visithutch.com and clicking on 2008 Grand FAM Tour of the “8 Wonders of Reno County.”

“We have always received positive feedback from participants of our previous FAM Tours, and we anticipate this year’s FAM to be even more special since we are featuring the winners of the campaign,” stated LeAnn Cox, CVB Director. “The goal is to fill the bus with 45 people and treat them to a day full of new experiences that educate them on what our visitors typically see.” In addition to the tour, each participant will also receive complimentary souvenirs from various 8 Wonders of Reno County attractions.
