Greater Hutchinson CVB Restructures 2008 Advisory Board

The Greater Hutchinson CVB Advisory Board will look completely different in 2008!

cvblogo

Throughout much of this year, the current advisory board and CVB staff worked to create a new board structure that streamlines the efforts of the board.  Today, the advisory board consists of 23 positions including four ex-officio.  But beginning January 1st, 2008 the advisory board will trim down to 15 positions. It was felt that a leaner board comprised of tourism-related entities directly linked to the CVB’s mission and willing to participate would be more productive for everyone involved.

The CVB is contracted to operate through an agreement with the Chamber of Commerce, and both Cities of Hutchinson and South Hutchinson.  After statewide research was done on comparable sized communities, the revised advisory board structure was presented to both cities and was met with an overwhelmingly positive response.  Mary Hemmings, Chairman of the CVB Advisory Board said “Our hope is that the restructuring of the advisory board will help both staff and board members with a more effective and participatory relationship beginning in 2008”.

8 Wonders of Reno County Finalists to be Announced Soon

Now that the ‘8 Wonders of Reno County’ promotion has concluded it’s nomination phase, the Greater Hutchinson CVB is tabulating the results and will soon announce the 18 finalists!

8wonders

Not to be confused with the Kansas Sampler Foundation’s ‘8 Wonders of Kansas’, the local promotion will establish a committee of judges to evaluate all of the hundreds of nominations to determine the final 18 wonders.  “There were 63 unique entities nominated which reinforces the amount of diverse features we have in Reno County” said LeAnn Cox, CVB Director.  The project is meant to celebrate the unique and remarkable attractions that visitors can experience here.

Voting for the finalists will commence on February 10th and will continue through April 30th, 2008.  Votes will be accepted by mail or online at www.visithutch.com, and you do not need to be a Reno County resident to vote.  The winners will be announced during National Tourism Week on Monday, May 12th.  Afterwards, the CVB will partner with the Reno County Growth Coalition to host a Familiarization Tour that features stops at all 8 Wonders’ winning locations!

The Cosmosphere and salt museum were top-of-mind for some people, but we also received some very interesting nominations like the red bluffs at Cheney Lake and Indian Creek Bison northeast of Haven” Cox said.

For more information on this project, contact the CVB at 662-3391 or email leannc@hutchchamber.com

8 Wonders of Reno County is a project of the Greater Hutchinson CVB, the Tourism Task Force of the Reno County Growth Coalition and the Hutchinson News.
