AT&T and The Chamber Host Legislative Forums

The Chamber's Legislative Affairs Committee invites you to attend the 2008 Legislative Forums. The events are scheduled for:

February 23, 9:30-11:00 AM at Wesley Towers

All Reno County Legislators are invited to attend the forums. Members of the Chamber and the general public are encouraged to attend. There is no cost to attend these events.

Chamber Annual Meeting To Highlight Creativity in Business

Join us for an exciting evening of celebration and entertainment at the Chamber's 2008 Annual Meeting on Monday, February 11 at the Grand Prairie Hotel & Convention Center.

This event will feature Erik Wahl, a recognized artist and speaker who challenges organizations to transcend mediocrity through creativity. 

His program is designed to wahlchannel innovative strategies to create extraordinary results. The Art of Vision is an entertaining and highly practical program that uncovers new ways to make your organization more creative and ultimately more profitable. By breaking apart the traditional rules, he challenges and inspires organizations to re-define their commonly held assumptions and misconceptions about vision, goals, success and creativity.

Tickets for the event are on sale now. Tickets are priced at $28.00 each, or $34.00 (which includes 2 drink tickets) if purchased prior to January 31st, or you may purchase tables of 10 for $300.00. If tickets are purchased after January 31st, the meal ticket is $33.00 or $39.00 (inclusive of 2 drink tickets). You may purchase tickets online or by contacting our office at 662-3391.

Hutchinson, will be at the Grand Prairie Hotel and Convention Center, January 16, at 7:15 a.m. The featured speaker is Valerie Wise, with the Wichita Airport Authority.

Wise is the Air Service and Business Development Manager for the Wichita Airport Authority. Wise began her career at Mid-Continent Airport in 1994 and played an integral part in the development of the Fair Fares campaign in 2001-2002, which drew national attention and continues to introduce new opportunities at Mid-Continent, including the newest low-cost carrier, Frontier Airlines.

The Chamber will also present the fourth quarter Small Business Spotlight Award to HIEB & Associates. The Small Business Spotlight Award is sponsored by First National Bank of Hutchinson, Hutchinson Credit Union and Diesel Control Technicians.

The Reno County Wind Energy Taskforce And The Hutchinson/Reno County Chamber Of Commerce Will Co-Host Fourth Generation Kansas Rancher, Pete Ferrell On Thursday, January 10th From 7:00 To 9:00 Pm At HCC’s Stringer Fine Arts Center For A Reno County Land Owner Forum. The Elk River Wind Farm Near Beaumont Boasts One Hundred 1.5 Mw Wind Turbines. Fifty Turbines Are Installed On Ferrell’s Land.

The Land Owner Forum Is Open To Anyone Who Owns Land In Reno County . Doors Will Open At 6:45 Pm. Refreshments Will Be Provided By The Hutchinson/Reno County Chamber Agri-Business Committee. Chamber Honors Ambassador of the Year

Congratulations to Barb Nickels for having earned the designation as ‘Ambassador of the Year’ for 2007. She has earned this designation in the past years of ’94, ’95, ’96

and ’04. She has achieved ‘Ambassador of the Quarter’ numerous times over the past years and for the 4th quarter of 2007. In 1996 she served as chair of the ambassadors.

This designation is awarded the Chamber Ambassador with the best attendance at ribbon cuttings, membership functions, calls on members, and new membership sales.

Barb and her husband, Jim, have been in the real estate business for many years; they are known as the Spouses Who Sell Houses, under the realty banner of Realty Executives. Their offices are located in the Hutchinson Mall. Congratulations Barb!

Chamber Ambassadors Announce 2008 Chair

Melanie Collins will serve as Chair of the Chamber of Commerce’s Ambassadors for the year 2008. She served as the committees vice-chair for 2007.

She is a Financial Advisor/Broker with Edward Jones Investments. Her office is located at 1515 North Lorraine, Suite B. She says, “My favorite pastime is to laugh and make other do the same. Life is too short to be serious all day.” She loves the outdoors, walking, biking, gardening and golf. Her second love is her business, serving her clients and the responsibility it takes to make her work a success.

Collins grew up on a farm near Rochester, Minnesota and moved to the Hutchinson/Reno County area in 1992 and is married to Tom Collins. She has 3 adult sons; Jeff of Hutchinson, Merritt of Lawrence, and Levi a marine serving in Iraq.

Currently the ambassadors committee is made up of 25 Chamber members who help the Chamber’s exposure and awareness throughout the community. Ambassadors conduct ribbon cuttings, act as greeters and master of ceremonies at Membership Breakfasts and Business after Hours events, as well as call upon Chamber members to touch base and assist the Chambers Membership Division in the development of new memberships.
