The number is also down from 5.2 percent in March 2006. The drop reflects the State of Kansas, which dropped from 4.8 percent in April of 2005 to 4.2 percent in April 2006.
State officials say Kansas added an estimated 6,500 jobs during the 12-month period. |
Did you know?
A total of 21 players have won the first 26 U.S. Senior Open championships. There have only been five playoffs. If necessary, a three or four hole playoff would be played immediately after completion of 72 holes, which NBC would broadcast in it’s entirety. |

| Market Research Study of Reno County |
The Greater Hutchinson Convention/Visitors Bureau (CVB) administers the Market Hutchinson committee, and this year they have embarked on an comprehensive project that is anticipated to bring valuable information to community leaders.
The Market Hutchinson committee has commissioned The Research Partnership out of Wichita, to conduct a market research study for Reno County. The methodology for the research includes both a telephone survey and focus group interviews. The last time market research was completed was in 1997, therefore precipitating the need for new and current data to help make responsible decisions. Market Hutchinson’s mission is to increase consumer traffic by promoting Hutchinson’s retail and medical facilities, tourist attractions and special events, with an approximate budget of $100,000. The project is half way completed, and so far has shown many interesting trends among the respondents.
As a comparison to the 1997 research, this year’s survey found that the improvement in K-96 highway to Wichita can be seen in the 10% increase in Sedgwick County residents reporting that they have visited Hutchinson during the past year. Also, the percentage of rural respondents reporting that they have visited Hutchinson has increased 6%.
These are just a couple of the results from the telephone survey that was conducted in February 2006. Partnerships have been solicited for the Focus Groups, and four entities have signed on to assist with this phase of the project. The two Focus Groups will be conducted in Wichita and Great Bend, addressing both the metropolitan and rural market segments. Watch for more information coming soon in the Outlook once the second phase of the project is completed.

| Grand Prairie Continues with Renovations |
If you thought the renovations to the Grand Prairie Hotel were complete, take another look!
Beginning in April, the hotel started the exterior renovation phase, which includes landscaping, entrance modifications and signage. The hotel is also working to complete the bathroom renovations, which began in late 2005. By the end of May, 150 guestroom baths will be complete and the final 50 will be done prior to the Senior Open.

The seven entrance locations into the hotel are currently being improved to enhance the appearance and tie the rest of the building into the same exterior design as that of Houlilhan’s Restaurant. An irrigation system has been put in place, and landscaping is underway to address the needs of the Lorraine Street side of the building, including sod, trees and various plantings. The exterior signage on the west and north side of the convention center was recently completed, and the face plates of the two monument signs and the K-61 highway pole sign were updated and changed. Additionally, an electronic four-color Daktronics message center will be added to the pole sign, enabling the hotel and convention center to display customized messages to various groups.
Once completed, the total investment for this phase of renovations will be just under $1 million. Brian Anderson, General Manager of the Grand Prairie Hotel said
“We’re excited to be nearing the completion of the renovation phase. In order to meet the deadline, the contractors are working 12 hour days, seven days a week. We certainly appreciate their commitment to our project”. The renovations are expected to be complete prior to the 2006 U.S. Senior Open. |
