How you can help..
All across the country we are hearing about the kindness and generosity, of complete strangers, to aide the hurricane victims along the Gulf Coast. There's proof that small actions can reap grand rewards, even here in our community.
Kathleen Rivers, student at Hutchinson Community College and 2005 graduate of the Leadership Reno County program, has initiated an effort to gather funds to assist those effected by Hurricane Katrina. Teaming up with the Hutchinson Community Foundation, Rivers is requesting that everyone in our county contribute a dollar apiece. "If everyone contributed a dollar, it would amount to more than $64,000 to help the victims," said Rivers.
The donations will be collected at the Hutchinson Community Foundation, 1 N. Main, Suite 501, and then sent directly to the National American Red Cross Relief Effort. For more information or questions please contact the Hutchinson Community Foundation office at 620-663-5293. You may also make your donations directly at the National American Red Cross Relief Effort web site.

| Greater Hutchinson Convention and Visitors Bureau Welcomes Kansas Bands and Visitors
|
Every year the Greater Hutchinson Convention and Visitor's Bureau is hard at work in your community. The CVB is expecting over 350,000 visitors in our community during the Kansas State Fair. In an effort to continually welcome and assist visitors and residents, the CVB will have a welcome booth at the state fair.
The Hospitality Booth, located just north of the Kansas State Fair Administration Building at the 20th and Poplar entrance, will highlight local area attractions and direct visitors to events. The CVB, along with many local merchants have put together a tremendous golf gift basket. The basket will include two one-day passes to the 2006 USGA Senior Open, items from; Carey Park Golf Course, The Links in Pretty Prairie and The Highlands. The drawing will be held on Sunday, September 18, presence not needed to win.
In addition to the Hospitality Booth, the CVB will be hard at work helping over 100 Kansas Marching Bands that make their way to the state fair. Each band has the opportunity to parade downtown and then showcase at the Kansas State Fair. The band parades will take place on Saturday, Monday, and Tuesday from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. The largest parade will take place on Wednesday from 8:00 to 11:30 a.m. The bands will be critiqued and rated on their performance. This event attracts a large audience, and we need to let the audience know that the parade route has changed.
The parade route has changed:
Begin at Ave. B and Washington to 2nd Ave and Washington, then 2nd to Main, and Main to 3rd Ave.
If you have any additional questions or would like to talk to a member at the CVB office, please contact Valerie Harper at 620-662-3391 or valerieh@hutchchamber.com

Congratulations to Norman Yutzy, Ken Yutzy and Vern Wickey, owners of Pleasantview Home Improvement, recipients of the 2005 third quarter Small Business Spotlight Award. Presentation of the award will be made at the September Chamber Membership Breakfast.

In business nearly 50 years, many things have changed since the original owners, Albert Miller and Raymond Yutzy began the business. Now owned and operated by Raymond's sons and son-in-law, Pleasantview is still committed to their clients and providing excellent quality service. "One of the things I enjoy in this business is helping people find the right products for their home and helping them make their dreams come true," says Vern Wickey, co-owner and general manager.
In 1956, Pleasantview Home Improvement began selling storm doors, windows and awnings. However, as product demands changed over the years, they currently provide a variety of services including; seamless siding, wrought iron railings, patio roofs, carports, to list a few of their product list.“We take an interest in each customer and treat them like we would like to be treated, with good service and quality products," stated Norman Yutzy, president and co-owner. "We want our customers to enjoy the products they purchase from us for a very long time."
|
| They consider it their way of giving back to the community, by staying involved and also by hiring many of their employees from the Pleasantview area. Several of their employees have been with Pleasantview for over 35 years and others have been with them for 15 to 20 years. With commitment and teamwork, Pleasantview Home Improvement is looking forward to another 50 years of service to their customers and community. |

Dana joins The Chamber with a background in communications and marketing, including a Bachelors Degree in Communications from Northwestern College. Most recently, Dana was associated with Girl Scouts Wheatbelt Council, where she was responsible for writing newsletters, creating marketing pieces, and assisting with fund development, grant writing, and coordinating special events.
