The Hutchinson/Reno County Chamber is pleased to announce the May 2018 Small Business Award recipient is Preferred Roofing and Guttering.

The business began as a guttering company in 2008 mostly serving Hutchinson and surrounding areas. As the business continued to grow, in 2010, the name of the business was changed from Preferred Seamless Guttering to Preferred Roofing & Guttering.  With this they began offering additional services and expanding their service locations to Southwest Kansas and beyond Wichita.

Most of their business comes from storm restoration and they take pride in restoring a home to pre-loss condition, sometimes making it even better than it was before. Preferred Roofing and Guttering does their best to ensure that their customers who are dealing with a disaster are stress free when it comes to paperwork and the amount of loss. They provide a one stop shop for their customers and take their time in finding the right solution and product to meet their customers’ needs and exceed expectations.

In the beginning, Preferred Roofing and Guttering faced many challenges from cash flow to finding the right staff, but they had a lot of support from loyal contractors and families that kept them going. When they expanded their services it took some time to find the right people who had the same vision and they did, however, they are proud to say they still have the same gutter crew since day one and their roofers and siders have been working for them for about 7 years.  Another challenge they face daily is the weather; they can’t control it!  Due to unpredictable weather changes, work can be delayed causing customers to wait for work to be completed. However, they have found that keeping communication with their customers helps with any frustration caused from delays.

Their employees are as dedicated to the business as they are to them. At Preferred Roofing and Guttering they found that by taking care of their employees by paying them fairly and showing they care has a huge impact on employee performance and retention. They make it known that their employees play a huge part in their success and the company wouldn’t be where it is today if it wasn’t for them.

Preferred Roofing and Guttering is highly involved in the community and sponsors events and monthly donations for the Open Door Pregnancy Care Center, High School sports, Girls Community College basketball, church events, and Oxford House. As of last year, they also found many families need a new roof, but are unable to afford it so they began giving a free roof once a year to a deserving family. Last year it was given to a single mother who had a tarp covering her house. The company gathered up the materials and their staff showed up at her house to surprise her with a new roof!  Each year they will receive request or recommendations to continue helping others in the community.

Congratulations and thank you for all you do for our community.
