Ely's Kawasaki Receives Small Business Award

The business originally began with Darrell’s grandpa, Gene, who started the business in a gas station in Inman.  When his dad, Gary, took over the business in 1979, he began the motorcycle sales and service division and moved the business to its current location in Hutchinson.   Darrell joined the business in 1993 and currently runs the day to day operations.  In May 2018 he brought on his son Cody, who is the 4^th generation to join the dealership.

Ely’s Kawasaki is truly a family owned and operated business and is the oldest Kawasaki dealer in the state of Kansas.   They maintain a consistent high-quality inventory of merchandise and vehicles and the company handles everything ‘in-house.’  In addition to Kawasaki, the are also a Husqvarna Lawn, Toro, and Echo dealer.  They know individuality is important, so they play close attention to the interests of their customer and from the minute they walk through the door, meeting their customer’s needs is their top priority.

At Ely’s Kawasaki, they treat their employees like family.  Most of their staff have been with them an average of 15 years.  Seasonal slumps are their biggest challenge and where some dealers may downsize or cut back hours during winter months, Ely’s Kawasaki provides stable employment year-round.  They offer several benefits including flexible hours, health insurance, and paid vacations.  The company also pays for mechanic training with Kawasaki, Husqvarna, etc. as classes are offered. 

They are very active in their kids’ schools and the dealership helps with an annual toy run.  Ely’s Kawasaki also throws an annual customer appreciation event for their customers each year to eat, have fun and try out their riding skills on some of the vehicles.
