The Heart and Vascular Center at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center has increased its efforts to treat a growing number of patients affected by heart disease.

Heart disease has no boundaries and is an affliction that is on the increase throughout the nation. Since the 1940s, it has ranked as the leading cause of death in the United States. More than 600,000 die annually from heart disease and another 735,000 are being treated for a wide range of cardiovascular issues. Last year, deaths from heart related issues surpassed cancer deaths by 50,000.

Statistics compiled for fiscal year 2019 (July 1, 2018 to June 30, 2019) showed than an increasing number of Hutchinson and Reno County residents chose to stay home and seek treatment for heart related issues at Hutch Regional. During the 12-month period, more than 2,000 patients underwent a heart procedure at Hutch Regional, a 20% increase over the previous fiscal year. And, it was equally gratifying that a number of patients from western Kansas towns including Quinter, Hoxie and Colby sought treatment at Hutch Regional.

Hutch Regional offers Comprehensive Cardiac Care procedures including stress tests, Coronary Intervention, and Cardiac Rehab. Heart procedures performed on any given day at Hutch Regional include Heart Cauterizations, Pacemakers, Defibrillators, and treatment for Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAD). Every month, the Heart and Vascular Team takes our treatment options on the road for outreach clinics in Great Bend, Hoisington, Lyons, Ellsworth and Quinter.

The cardiovascular team at Hutch Regional includes Dr. Mike Hagley, Dr. Costy Mattar, and Dr. Jamil Ahmed, Interventional Cardiologists; Dr. T.K. Reddy, Cardiologist; and Dr. Rob Fleming, a Cardiothoracic Surgeon whose specialties include valve replacements and coronary bypass, along with abdominal aortic aneurysm repair.

The Heart and Vascular Center at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center takes pride in providing excellent and high quality care equal to treatment provided in Wichita or the state’s other larger cities with a goal to be even better as we prepare for the future of cardiovascular treatment.
