Bluestem PACE (Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly) of McPherson, will expand its services by opening an alternative care site in Hutchinson in spring of 2021.

The PACE program, which partners with individuals aged 55 and better and their caregivers so seniors can remain safe and independent in their homes for as long as possible, has been serving seniors in McPherson, Harvey, Marion, Reno, Rice and Saline counties for four years. PACE participants are nursing home-eligible, however more than 95 percent are able to live in the community with the services and support they receive from PACE.

“Establishing a location in Hutchinson was part of the plan for the next year and a half, but the process was expedited, in large part because of COVID-19,” said Bluestem PACE Executive Director Justin Loewen. “With social distancing restrictions, we’ve had to significantly reduce the number of participants we can serve at once in our McPherson day center. Adding the alternative care site in Hutchinson will allow us to more regularly serve a greater number of participants with the health care services and socialization we provide, and do it right in the community many of participants live in.”

Bluestem PACE provides participants with a variety of services from primary care physicians to prescription drug services, all from one source. Participants can also spend time at the PACE Center, allowing their in-home caregivers some respite while receiving personal and medical care and enjoying social activities.

The Bluestem PACE location in Hutchinson will provide similar services as the center in McPherson, including health care services, activities, meals and transportation, so participants more local to Hutchinson will have to travel less frequently.

“We’re looking forward to being part of the Hutchinson community and creating strong partnerships with community providers, including both specialty and primary care physicians,” said Loewen.

Bluestem PACE in Hutchinson will be located at 1900 East 23rd Avenue in an existing building. Renovations for the new site will begin in December, and plans to open to participants in March or April of 2021.

“We’re excited to offer greater access to services for PACE participants right in their community,” said Marketing and Intake Director Emilie Rains.
