In 1960 Elmer (Bud) Bridgman started selling Standard oil products as a commissioned agent in Mt. Hope, Kansas. In 1964 Standard Oil Company was transferred to Bud in Burrton, expanding his sales territory. In 1976 Standard Oil sold Bud the business where he started Bridgman Oil selling petroleum products as an Amoco jobber. In 1977, the Hutchinson location was purchased, and the office was established here. In 1989, Bud hired Brad Thompson and sold the business to him when he was ready to retire. After working hard for 30 years to increase the business, Brad sold the company to his nephews in 2019 to keep the business in the family, but has stayed on as manager.
Throughout the years, Bridgman Oil has stayed true to its roots as an old-fashioned Fuel Jobber that has everything a person needs for the farm or business. Today, the Hutchinson office handles all the accounting functions and dispatching of trucks. Bridgman Oil also offers three Cardtrol stations located in the following cities: Hutchinson, Burrton, and Pleasantview. The Cardtrol system allows their customers to have self-serve fuel 24/7. Their Hutchinson and Burrton locations have bulk facilities for refined fuels, as well as a warehouse for oils and lubricants. This allows for prompt delivery of those products to all of their customers. Their Hutchinson location is the primary storage facility for propane. They are also proud to be the Reno County Exxon Mobil distributor along with a distributor for Baldwin Filters and Mean Green cleaner and degreaser.
Their biggest challenge is competing with the larger companies, but overcome that by always providing the best service. They believe that excellent customer service is very important because without their customers they cannot exist , which is why they have a full staff of dedicated people that are committed to making their service to their customers the best it can be. They work hard to accommodate everyone’s specific needs for all types of customers from those who want their tanks kept full, to the ones that call in when they need a product.
At Bridgman they believe in giving back to their community and support numerous local organizations including Ambucs, Cancer Council of Reno County, Strataca, Boys & Girls Clubs of Hutchinson, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Reno County, and local churches.
Thank you to Bridgman LLC for all you do for our community!
