Salt City Brewing Receives Small Business Award

The Hutch Chamber is proud present the May Small Business Award to Salt City Brewing, owned by Steven Petermann.

Salt City Brewing emerges as our Small Business of the Month, standing as a testament to passion, resilience, and community spirit. Established in 2015 in Downtown Hutchinson, Kansas, this local gem began with a vision to craft unique brews and provide a space for camaraderie.

From its humble beginnings of Steven and his son, Cole the only employees, Salt City Brewing has grown into a cornerstone of the community, offering not just exceptional beer and food, but also a vibrant hub for events and gatherings. Today, they have 10 full-time staff and 16 part-time. 

What sets Salt City Brewing apart is its genuine engagement with the community. Steven's advocacy for local causes and collaborations with other businesses have made a significant impact. To date, SCB has brought 146 events to our community from concerts in the street to trivia nights to specialty whiskey tastings to the upcoming Logan Mize concert.

When it comes to supporting our local non-profits, once again, Steven understands the value of teaming up to make our community a better place. There’s too many to count, but specifically Salt City Brewing has stepped up to help support events like A Taste of Hutchinson – Men’s Cook (Salthawk Community Support), Main Street Hops for TECH, Boys & Girls Club, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, the Rod Run, Third Thursday, Rotary, Salt City Fest, TabbyStrong, Fire Relief for Reno County, Cancer Council of Reno County, and the NJCAA DI Volleyball Championship.

At the heart of Salt City Brewing's success lies its exceptional team that Steven has assembled. With a focus on employee well-being and a supportive work environment, the brewery has cultivated a loyal and dedicated workforce.

With the purchase of the building a couple doors down from the brewery, Steven is narrowing down the ideas to open yet another unique and amazing venue in Downtown Hutchinson.
